Make the firmware file for your Zoom L6.
This page turns Zoom's own L6 firmware v1.10 into the unofficial overdub / stereo AUX firmware, right here in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and the page contains none of Zoom's firmware.
The firmware adds two features. Both are off when you install it, and you turn each one on by holding two buttons. Apart from that, the mixer works as it did before.
Your last four takes on the pads
When the overdub chain is on, the mixer puts each take onto pad 1 a few seconds after you stop recording. The take that was on pad 1 moves to pad 2, and so on down to pad 4. To overdub, play pad 1 while you record the next take. The new recording includes the old one.
The pads play each take's own MASTER.WAV where it already is on the card, so the chain uses no card space. Takes shorter than 2 seconds don't go on the pads. To turn the chain on or off, hold EFX and PAN together for 1.5 seconds.
What went into each take
Each take folder also gets a HISTORY.TXT file. It lists the takes and pad sounds that were playing while you recorded, newest first. Every listed take has a history of its own, so you can trace a finished mix back to the original recordings and their separate tracks.
A stereo AUX send
Normally AUX 1 and AUX 2 are two separate mono sends, each with its own level on every channel. In stereo mode they carry one stereo mix instead. AUX 1 is the left side and AUX 2 the right. A channel's AUX 1 level sets how loud it is in that mix and its PAN knob places it. To switch modes, hold AUX 1 and AUX 2 together for 1.5 seconds. The setting is kept when you switch the mixer off.

Download Zoom's L6 firmware v1.10
On Zoom's L6 support page, download L6 Firmware v1.10. You get L6_v1.10_E.zip; keep it zipped, you don't need to open it.
The LiveTrak L6, not the L6max: the L6max has its own version 1.10.
- This is unofficial firmware, not made or supported by Zoom. It changes your mixer's firmware.
- If the mixer ever won't start after an update, you can put Zoom's own firmware back from the card. This has been tested with a deliberately broken firmware.
- Zoom's terms don't allow changing its firmware without permission. Installing this is your decision and your responsibility.
Make the file
Drop L6_v1.10_E.zip here
or the L6.BIN inside it
Tick the box above first. The file stays on your computer.

That isn't Zoom's L6 firmware, version 1.10.
Nothing was made: this page only works from the exact L6 v1.10 file.
- It's the L6max firmware. The L6max has its own version 1.10. Download the one for the LiveTrak L6.
- It's a different version, such as a newer Zoom update. This firmware works only with version 1.10.
- The download didn't finish. Download it again and drop the new file.
Something went wrong making the file.
The file this page made doesn't match the published one, so it hasn't been offered for download. Nothing has been written anywhere. Please report it with your browser's name and version and the line below.
Send it to the mixer.
Before you start: the mixer is switched on as usual with its card in and connected to this computer by USB, and ZOOM L6 Editor is closed. The browser will ask permission to talk to the mixer (it calls this "MIDI access"): allow it. Later it asks you to pick the card.
- aConnect to the L6
- bPut the mixer into File Transfer Mode The mixer pauses being a mixer and shows its card on this computer as a drive, just as ZOOM L6 Editor's File Transfer Mode does.
- cChoose the card and write L6.BIN Pick the card itself (its top folder holds RECORDER and SOUND_PAD). If the browser asks whether this page may view or edit files there, allow it.
- dEject the card, then take the mixer out of File Transfer Mode First eject the card: in Finder click ⏏ next to it; on Windows use Safely Remove Hardware. Then tick the box and press Leave.
The file is on the card. Now update the mixer (step 4).
Make the file first (step 2), then send it to the mixer here.
Copy the file to the card.
The firmware file: 3,756,544 bytes (about 3.8 MB).
- Get the card onto your computer: either take the microSD card out of the mixer and put it in a card reader, or leave it in, connect the mixer by USB, and click File Transfer Mode in ZOOM L6 Editor (Zoom's free app). Either way the card appears as a drive.
- Copy
L6.BINto the top folder of the card, replacing anyL6.BINalready there. - Eject the card properly before taking it out (or before leaving File Transfer Mode).
To send the file straight to the mixer instead, open this page in Chrome or Edge on a computer.
Update the mixer.
- Keep the L6 powered from its USB port (batteries may not be enough).
- Switch the mixer off. If you took the card out, put it back.
- Hold PLAY/STOP, then press and hold POWER until the power light comes on; then let go.
- The power light blinks green slowly while it updates (about 30 seconds), then quickly when it's done. Don't switch off during the update.
- Switch the mixer off and on again.
If the power light blinks red quickly, the update failed: switch off, check that L6.BIN is in the card's top folder, and try again. If the mixer stays dark afterwards, it isn't broken: see If the mixer won't start.
- Overdub chain: hold EFX + PAN for 1.5 seconds. Both lights blink: on. Both light steadily: off. It starts off, and the mixer remembers it.
- Stereo AUX: hold AUX 1 + AUX 2 for 1.5 seconds. Both lights blink: stereo (AUX 1 is the left side, AUX 2 the right). Both light steadily: two separate mono sends, as the mixer normally works.
With the chain on, each take you record moves onto pad 1 a few seconds after you stop, and older takes move along pads 2–4. Press pad 1 during the next take to layer over it. Keep the MASTER and SOUND PAD knobs at their 0 dB marks and the master compressor off, or every layer gets quieter or compressed again.
While the chain is on, the mixer keeps a tiny silent MASTER.WAV in each pad folder on the card; leave those alone. Pads in the chain all show the name MASTER.WAV; that's normal. Every take also gets a HISTORY.TXT listing what went into it. Switch the chain off whenever you want to keep your own sounds on the pads.

Copy the L6.BIN from Zoom's own zip to the top folder of the card (replacing this one) and update the mixer the same way. Your recordings, pad sounds and settings stay; the MASTER.WAV and history files can stay too.
